surfboards in the sand

Sep 20th, 2009 by Mark

shaka-laka-ding-dong

It should have been called, meaningless display by people without clue, or heads in the sand, or pleassse love me.

Another feel-good, but meaningless gesture by the “Jeff Spicoli” set occurred on Saturday in Orange County at Huntington Beach. The “Rip Curl Surfboards in the Sand” (gee, how nice, free advertising for Rip Curl, but it’s about the “environment.” Bull) “event” was a collection of Prius (those that can afford it) driving, hemp wearing, ‘surfing is a lifestyle’ do-gooders; who never seem to do anything, let alone “good.”

Hey Surfies, clue up; it takes real work that no one will notice to effect change. Meaningless displays like this are only about you attempting to either (or both) feel good without doing anything (be “one” with the cosmos or some bullcrap like that) or you trying to clean the stain of your guilt from your soul for just being an American.

Supposedly the “event” was to “raise awareness and funding for protecting the coastal environment.” So let me get this straight, you actually believe that in California, no one is “aware’ that the “coastal environment” exists? Or was it the “funding” part that you were more concerned for? I say the latter. Clearly that was Rip Curl and Co agenda.

surfrider foundation and rip curl promotes eco-stupidity

The Surfrider foundation, another collection of self-loathing holier-than-thou types was also part of this ego trip. The Surfrider foundation is not about surfing, it’s about eco-hysteria and eco-fascism. The Surfrider foundation is known for it’s publicity at all costs mentality, that usually ends in either catastrophe or worse. This is usually followed by their arrogant attitude that they won’t discuss their screwups, and then flail around in meaningless gestures to do damage control.

They spend all of their time trying to tell everyone what to do. They like the nuts at Greenpeace, Save our Seas (the nut jobs affiliated with the eco-terrorists Sea Shepard Society) drove paper bags out of the market, to be replaced by plastic bags. Now they say those plastic bags are ‘killing the planet.’ Yea and it’s your fault. This is just another in a long pattern of fascist behavior built on guilt, and self-loathing. The less we listen to these wolf-criers, the better off we will be.

The group is supported by celebrities, who like Rip Curl are looking for publicity and/or are too stupid to understand what they are signing on with. The group also “honors” (can you be that arrogant?) groups, most of whom are making meaningless gestures at being “eco friendly” while touring in huge tour buses. Yea, I am buying that.

Grow up, people.
