Using the Homeless

Dec 3rd, 2009 by Mark

Help-Portrait will take photographs of the homeless and abused. This is said to be able to make the “homeless and abused” feel valued. This is disturbing and disgusting. The founders are blaming Advent Conspiracy for coming up with this idea. it strikes me as odd, that this is the nexus of this idea, but that is the claim.

“This gets at the heart of why I got into journalism,” Flynn said of the initiative. “I feel like what we do has power, and it has power to help people. Pictures also validate our lives. And I think because of this they are important, in some way, to most everyone.”

Once again we see some groundless fools using the weak to make themselves feel better. What really turns my stomach is the arrogance with which these people operate. The idea that they and their skills will make people feel better, is mind boggling.

Barry Simmons, who directed and edited the video, said the experience reminded him of the significance of photos and the stories they tell.

Yes, let’s document their failed lives. Nice job.

People living on the streets, or in shelters for battered women, DON’T want their picture taken. They may agree to it, but it’s only to get attention. Preying on the weak, nothing more.

The experience also fosters a sense of community, Help-Portrait organizers say, and gives photographers a chance to meet one another and collaborate.

Oh good, a networking opportunity. You know these photos are going to end up being used by some lefty fringe group to brow beat the public into paying for more failed Gov programs.

While people may have a desire to use their talent to help others, Cowart said, there’s not always a platform for them to do so. Help-Portrait, he explained, gives them a starting point and a way to share their gift with others who may not be as fortunate.

Bullshit! Try the Salvation Army. They need help. I bet their are several charities that would welcome imaging and graphics help. They won’t get it, as liberals (most imaging and graphics people are libs) believe the Gov should be doing this work. Which brings me back to what I feel is the reason for this project. Self-aggrandizement, feel-goodism. Results don’t matter, only that the gathering and self-congratulatory back-slapping matter.

Using the weak to uplift yourself. Vile, and disgusting.
