I suppose narcissism could be considered a mental disorder, although there is no cure for it. I wonder, is narcissism (along the same lines as Obama http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/03/obamas_malignant_narcissism.html ) a better alternative to a true mental disease?

This quote is a comment from a contributor to one of the blogs you linked to here, Mark. It gripped my attention because it is so clear that this is NOT what our founding fathers had in mind at the outset of the American justice system…punishing innocent people is NOT something we should be willing to accept. Example: If it happens to be a death penalty situation, are we content to say that now and then a truly innocent person should be willing to die by mistake just so that we don’t overlook punishing the truly guilty? Would we be willing to spout such gibberish if the innocent person losing their life happened to be someone we loved? Of course not. The whole idea that innocent people must suffer sometimes in order to be sure the guilty get swooped up is ridiculous at best. If my neighbor is guilty of a real crime, and I mean a REAL crime, and the only way for him/her to be punished for that crime is for ME to be punished along with him, I’ll vote for letting him/her go UNpunished! The view changes when we make it personal, see that?

I have faced the grinder of the American justice system here in southern California, and it is a formidable force indeed. There is no escaping an entity that has the kind of power and control over the private citizen the way law enforcement currently has. Unfortunately, “truth and justice” are no longer the final goal, rather, “winning the game” and prolonging political careers are the prizes now sought.

I’m saddened by this recent event, mostly because it is simply clear evidence that Big Brother is doing his first job even better than is second job. His second goal is to control the masses…his first goal is to achieve his second goal with the complete permission of those masses. In order to do that, he must dupe them into believing in his inherent goodness and honorable intent toward them. Sound familiar? He will say he is just protecting property rights, seeking justice, how sad that some innocents must be punished with the guilty but we have to accept that…he needs us to believe all of these things.

I don’t want to rant and rave, so I should stop now. Just wanted to chime in a few cents worth of a down-to-earth view. Thanks Mark, for opening this discussion!
